In order to elevate the spiritual atmosphere, create proper psychological conditions and tranquility of mind, the Province of the Quds’eh-Razavi of Khorassan has created centers for temporary marriage (just next door to the shrine) for those brothers who are on pilgrimage to the shrine of our eighth Imam, Imam Reza, and who are far away from their spouses.
To that end, we call on all our sisters who are virgins, who are between the ages of 12 and 35 to cooperate with us. Each of our sisters who signs up will be bound by a two year contract with the province of the Quds’eh-Razavi of Khorassan and will be required to spend at least 25 days of each month temporarily married to those brothers who are on pilgrimage. The period of the contract will be considered as a part of the employment experience of the applicant. The period of each temporary marriage can be anywhere between 5 hours to 10 days. The prices are as follows:
5 hour temporary marriage – 50,000 Tomans ($50 US)
One day temporary marriage – 75,000 Tomans ($75 US)
Two day temporary marriage – 100,000 Tomans ($100 US)
Three day temporary marriage – 150,000 Tomans ($150 US)
Between 4 and 10 day temporary marriage – 300,000 Tomans ($300 US)
Our sisters who are virgins will receive a bonus of 100,000 Tomans ($100 US) for the removal of their hymen.

Of course it's voluntary.... except this is what happens to females who don't do what the menfolk tell them to do.
From Time :
The Taliban pounded on the door just before midnight, demanding that Aisha, 18, be punished for running away from her husband's house. Her in-laws treated her like a slave, Aisha pleaded. They beat her. If she hadn't run away, she would have died. Her judge, a local Taliban commander, was unmoved. Aisha's brother-in-law held her down while her husband pulled out a knife. First he sliced off her ears. Then he started on her nose.
This didn't happen 10 years ago, when the Taliban ruled Afghanistan. It happened last year. Now hidden in a secret women's shelter in Kabul, Aisha listens obsessively to the news. Talk that the Afghan government is considering some kind of political accommodation with the Taliban frightens her. "They are the people that did this to me," she says, touching her damaged face. "How can we reconcile with them?"

A number of photojournalists follow this around the world and a recent one is about women in our ally against terrorism, Pakistan.

Makes you wonder where our ethics, morals and values are these days where we willing to sacrifice people for politics.
Has there ever been a time were leaders didn't sacrifice people for politics?
Hi Zoe,
The Taliban are not a people. Taliban is an ideology whose fabric changes with geography. The USA created the myth 'Taliban is a people' just like it created the whole 'Saddam has WMDs' to get strategic footing in Asia.
And this magazine cover is propaganda.
Zoe, the USA does not want to pull out of mineral rich Afghanistan or oil rich Iraq... hence the propaganda. Dont buy into it. Please.
Women being mutilated happens everywhere: African nations(widespread female genital mutilation), China, India, even within the USA.
But USA needs an excuse to jump into iran too... so it has created a lot of myths. (a branch of my family lives in Iran)
As for Afghanistan, let me assure you that the USA is causing more hell and killing more people in Afghanistan than the Taliban could ever have done. The only way to resolve the crisis is to hand the country to the United Nations. Look at how well Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia have settled down after the UN moved in. It took time, but they did it. There are plenty of women doctors in Afghanistan making a difference. Why did they not make it to the Time magazine cover!!! The West likes to focus about how women in Iran and Arab countries are persecuted. I'm sick of it! Please listen to what Queen Rania says...

You sir/madam are a perniscous disease-ridden coward. And totally, hopelessly W-R-O-N-G-O!!Let me ellucidate...
"The Taliban are not a people. Taliban is an ideology whose fabric changes with geography."
Actually the Taliban is a ruling party..much like a political party in a democracy. Oh and a THEOCRATIC political party. One who maintains power by following strict Shari'a law...you've heard of that? Women as property, genital mutilation, etc. Other than that, I hear they're really swell guys and FANTASTIC dancers!
"The USA created the myth 'Taliban is a people' just like it created the whole 'Saddam has WMDs' to get strategic footing in Asia."
Zounds! I did not realize I was talking to Keith Olbermann... really this is so retarded as to be an insult..however, since you brought it up.... Sure the USA "made it all up"....along with the French, British, Isreali, German, Jordanian, Syrian, Russian, Chinese intelligence agencies...since all of them said that Saddam had the WMD too. Buncha liars! Couldn't have had anything to do with the fact that SADDAM himself kept telling everybody he had WMDs as some sort of machismo my WMD is bigger than your WMD Arab male cock fight to keep his neighbors from rolling in and banging his country.
"the USA does not want to pull out of mineral rich Afghanistan or oil rich Iraq..."
Recent current events would tend to disprove this little nugget of "wisdom"!
"Women being mutilated happens everywhere: African nations(widespread female genital mutilation), China, India,"
I agree but lets look a bit at the common causes of this sahll we...at core it is a basic disregard for the worth of the female. Whether it be religious (Islamist) or cultural (China, India) it all boils down to the same thing...they don't give a flying frig at a rolling donut about their women.
"even within the USA."
I'm gonna need sourcing on this one! Absent that I'll just go ahead and call bullshit. Common boilerplate anti-American screed.
"But USA needs an excuse to jump into iran too... so it has created a lot of myths."
Oh..what myths would those be? That Iran is run by theocratic thugs? That it's head of state is a die hard acolyte of a radical, apocalyptic ideology? That their laws enshrine the persecution of women, religious minorities and homosexuals under the pretext of that self-same religious ideology? Just what myths have the US created? What're you saying...Achmadininutjob is a CIA plant?
Yeah sunshine...Islam is the religion of inclusion, and should be the first choice of any thinking woman, due to the unrivaled position of prominence and honor it promises her....
I apologize to the hostess of this blog for hijacking it....such rampant blather needs to be addressed..and I'm just the guy to do it.
Carry on!
