Young Adult Psychological Outcome After Puberty Suppression and Gender Reassignment

Young Adult Psychological Outcome After Puberty Suppression and Gender Reassignment De Vries et al Pediatrics peds.2013-2958; published ahead of print September 8, 2014,

RESULTS: After gender reassignment, in young adulthood, the GD was alleviated and psychological functioning had steadily improved. Well-being was similar to or better than same-age young adults from the general population. Probably the most telling part of this report is the improvement in psychological functioning.

Perhaps the biggest toll that our pre-transition lives take on us is the depression and other pyschological problems too many of us suffer. Even though most of us are better off after we begin treatment, whenever in our lives it commences, we still have to un-do a lot of the damage caused by the shame and low self-esteem that shape too many of our lives as we're living in the gender assigned to us at birth.

"If the EEOC complaint remains uncontested, army officials will be required to grant Lusardi full access to female facilities, prevent future harassment or retaliatory action, and agree to compensatory damages. "
